Happy Birthday Harry Potter ~

Dear Harry Potter,

You came into my life one random afternoon when I was sitting at home playing truant from school. I devoted hours of my childhood to you. Then I devoted hours of my teenage-hood to you. And funnily, my twenty-two year-old self still devotes hours to you.

I am not kidding when I say you shaped my childhood. You swept me away like you swept Ginny Weasley away. Even now when I close my eyes I can see you. I can see you giving your triwizard money to Fred and George. I can see Sirius telling you that you’d be a proper family when everything is over. I can see you choosing Gryffindor. You have taught me so many things. To be honest, you are still teaching me new things everyday.

From the first day I met you, you showed me what it is to be courageous in the face of great danger. You showed me that family goes beyond blood. You showed me loyalty and you became my go-to person for everything. When I was happy, I’d watch you. When I was devastated, I’d watch you. I grew every year, and every year I desperately wanted you to not grow. I wanted you to stay frozen as I remembered you – an eleven year-old trying to catch letters addressed to him because no one had ever addressed a letter to him.

Sometimes when I look back it baffles me how long it has been since you met Hagrid for the first time. I consider myself so lucky to have grown with you. After so many years of loving you and crying with you, I now know that no matter how strong that Obliviate charm might be, nothing could make me forget you. You have always been a part of me and I know that fourty year-old me will still consider Hogwarts her home.

Happy Birthday Harry Potter.

A potterhead for life.

I’ve spent this whole week re-watching Harry Potter movies just because I could in whatever order I wanted to. I started with the 5th one and ended with the the 3rd one and had a genuinely great week.

Spiderman: Far from home (2019)

I was SO reluctant to watch this movie after watching Homecoming because I really disliked Homecoming. I remember watching Homecoming and thinking that Spiderman’s been ruined for me. It seemed so childish and it seemed (to me) that anything was happening – that Peter Parker was not actually being Peter Parker. Only after watching Far from home did I realize how much of Peter Parker he was being. He was a sixteen-year old teenager living a secret life, his mentor had just died, he himself had “Blipped” (as the movie puts it) – he was being as much of himself as he could be.

Far from home takes Peter Parker and his friends on a European science trip for the summer vacation. Peter has decided to not be a superhero this summer and has an elaborate plan to win over the girl he likes and get to kiss her on top of the Eiffel Tower.

Everything about Far from home is really, really good right from Happy and Aunt May’s summer fling, to Ned and Betty’s one week romance. The movie flows so easily and flawlessly that it never seems like too long. My favourite part of the movie is easily MJ (Zendaya) running to give Peter the tightest hug ever – little victories for Peter who seems to be losing way too much in this movie. The movie has mind blowing special effects and no scene bores you, in fact no scene even lets you think for one second that Spiderman’s been ruined for you.

I liked the movie so much that even I was surprised – especially considering that I didn’t care one bit for the first movie. All in all, Spiderman: Far from home is a really good movie and if you do watch it: there are two post credits scenes (and neither should be missed because wow).

Ed Sheeran’s No.6 Collaborations Project

Every single time Ed Sheeran releases new music I feel like Jesus personally is blessing me. All these years and there hasn’t been a single song of Ed’s that I haven’t absolutely been obsessed with.

Ed Sheeran’s new album has a total of 15 songs and every single one is really, really good. Like every other album, I have a favourite song – Best Part of Me featuring YEBBA is what is making me cry.

This album is so so different from his previous ones because you are so used to listen to Ed singing alone and listening to his voice melting along with so many other artists that I really like (Khalid, Camila Cabello) is heavenly.

There are a lot of artists that I haven’t heard of before and literally because of this album, I’ve now googled them. Ed Sheeran has been one of my favourite artists ever since I spent a four hour car drive listening to The A-Team on repeat and with every new album I’m now only more attracted to what a beautiful human he is.

If you haven’t heard this new album, you totally should and then listen to it all on repeat.

Traffic Music

Today, I was coming back home and I was stuck in traffic for exactly two hours. It was excruciating and would’ve have been really, really boring if I did not have my music to listen to – so here is a list of songs I play while I’m stuck in traffic!

Slow moving traffic:

  1. Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
  2. Cold/Mess by Prateek Kuhad.
  3. Fear of the Water by Syml.
  4. Dive by Ed Sheeran.

Traffic that is not at all moving (at all!):

  1. Without Me by Halsey.
  2. I don’t care by Ed Sheeran.
  3. Up & Up by Coldplay.
  4. Treat you better by Shawn Mendes.

When you get through a patch of bumper-to-bumper traffic and end up in another similar patch:

  1. I will wait by Mumford & Sons.
  2. Believer by Imagine Dragons.
  3. I get to love you by Ruelle.
  4. I don’t know what it’s like to be you by Shawn Mendes and Julia Michaels.

When you finally escape traffic:

  1. Waving flag by K’naan.
  2. Counting Stars by OneRepublic.
  3. Live while we’re young by One Direction.
  4. Summer of ‘69 by Bryan Adams.

What am I listening to in this rain?

If you’ve seen the news in this past week, you’d know that crazy rains made our municipality declare a public holiday. I absolutely love things getting canceled (especially college), and Mumbai rains always end up canceling something once a month. Rains seem super romantic and beautiful when you’re sitting inside doing nothing and these are the songs I’ve been listening to in these rains:

  1. Beautiful People – Ed Sheeran feat. Khalid
  2. Senorita – Shawn Mendes feat. Camila Cabello
  3. Falling for boys – Julia Michaels
  4. Rescue Me – OneRepublic
